Set in a city close to the border with North Korea, "Paju" tells the story of a teenage schoolgirl and her complex relationship with her older sister's husband.
Fest topper Rutger Wolfson described the pic as a triumph of resilience and a powerful female voice from Asia. This is the first time Rotterdam has opened with a Korean feature.
Topliners Seo Woo and Lee Seon-Gyoon are expected to accompany Park on the opening night.
While "Paju" will appear out of competition at Rotterdam, Park already has one of the fest's Tiger Awards to her name for her 2002 debut "Jealousy Is My Middle Name."
"Paju" took its world bow at the Pusan Film Festival in October. World sales are handled by M-Line Distribution.
