Jason Priestley is aiming for the bigscreen, developing drug-smuggling tale "Death of a Freerider" with producers Chad Oakes and Mike Frislev of Nomadic Pictures ("Broken Trail").

Priestley's optioned the feature rights to "Freerider," penned by Jesse Hyde for Rolling Stone about Sam Brown, a 22-year-old Canadian mountain biker who took his quest for adventure into the multi-million dollar business of cross-border drug smuggling, which ultimately lead to his death.

Priestley and Nomadic are aiming to put the project in front of cameras at the end of next year.

Priestley's upcoming projects include the BBC miniseries "Day of the Triffids" and the single-camera series "Meet Phil Fitz." He's also directed episodes of "Secret Life of the American Teenager," "90210" and the Web series "The Lake" for the WB 2.0.

Oakes and Priestley are longtime collaborators. Nomadic's credits include "The Incredible Mrs. Ritchie" and "The Mermaid Chair."
